Why the 'I Am' Statements
When God revealed His name to Moses, He said, 'I AM WHO I AM.' Centuries later a carpenter stood in the temple and said, 'Before Abraham was, I am,' and the crowd reached for stones, because they understood precisely what He claimed. Jesus never offered Himself as a wise teacher among many. He spoke the name of God and finished the sentence.
Seven times in John He fills that name in — bread, light, door, shepherd, resurrection, way, vine — and each answers a real hunger of the human soul. This is a slow, three-week walk through those statements, reading the stories behind them and letting each one press the question that outlasts every other: is Christ who He says He is, and is He enough for the whole of your life?
